Capim Dourado Jewelry

This beautiful golden grass exists only in the region of Jalapão in central Brazil. The grass flowers open in July and August and after pollination they produce seeds that mature in mid-September. At this time the stems are dry and bright and can be harvested. The harvest of the grass is regulated by the government in order to discourage premature collection. A further stipulation is that the flowers be cut and thrown back into the area from which they were taken.  It is forbidden to remove grass from the region which means the jewelry must be made by local artists. The objective is to insure economic and social sustainability
